Historic Photos In Colour
This is a really cool group on Flickr - it contains historic photos before 1945, but they are all in colour. I find it quite strange looking at these, some of them almost look like film sets.

Geoscience Facts of the Day
If oxygen levels in the atmosphere were below 13%, fire would not be possible. If the level of oxygen were over 30%, forest fires would go out of control and destroy the entire biosphere.
It would take 80,000 yrs to remove all oxygen from atmosphere. Without plants, it would take only a few thousand.
If all the ice held on planet earth was to melt, the global average rise in sea level...
Climate Change Is Making The Oceans Louder
Apparently, increased atmospheric carbon dioxide also means increased absorption of carbon in the Earth’s oceans. And this increase, in turn, means more acidic sea water. More acidic oceans mean less absorption of sound at low frequencies.

White Christmas?
So it’s Christmas time again, and for the first time that I can remember, it is a “white” Christmas. i.e. there’s snow on the ground covering most of the garden. But I don’t really feel it. The snow is sort of left over from a few days ago, gradually melting in the rain. It’s more of a snowy-slushy-icy mess!
